ROOT CANAL THERAPY is a very common dental procedure. It is a simple treatment that can save your tooth to avoid replacement with an artificial tooth (like a bridge or implant). Inside the hard outer part of your tooth is a collection of nerves and blood vessels, called the pulp. The pulp can get infected which leads to pain, swelling, and/or destruction of your jaw bone. Infection of the pulp can be caused by trauma, deep decay, cracks and chips, or repeated dental procedures. Once the pulp is infected it must be cleaned out from the inner part of the tooth. The space once occupied by the pulp is filled with a material that seals the tooth. Read More...

ENDODONTIC RETREATMENT is trying the root canal therapy again. It involves removing the old root canal filling, disinfecting the canals again and placing a new root filling. In some a cases it is best to place a medicine inside the tooth for a certain period of time, before resealing it. Re-treatment is a more complicated procedure for the Doctor because it is the second time someone has worked inside the tooth. Due to this the success is slightly lower. In some cases retreatment may not be able to resolve the problem, examples are teeth with fractures, separated instruments, or blocked canals. In these cases a surgical approach may be the best option. Read More...Endodontic_Retreatment_1.htmlEndodontic_Retreatment_1.htmlshapeimage_7_link_0shapeimage_7_link_1
ENDODONTIC MICROSURGERY can be used to find fractures, damaged areas of the root, or hidden nerve canals. The procedure starts with a small incision in the gums. This creates a window to access the problem root and surrounding infection. The very tip of the root (usually 3-5mm) is removed along with the damaged tissue. A root-end filling is placed to prevent reinfection of the root and the gum tissue is put back in place with stitches. The bone naturally heals around the root and the tooth will be fully functional. Minor swelling and discomfort may be experienced for the first couple days afterwards. This is normal for any surgical procedure. CRACKED TEETH can be a result of the stresses that teeth undergo every day. Biting forces, severe temperature changes, and bacterial invasion are just a few examples. Grinding and bruxism is a very common cause of cracked teeth. The most common cracked teeth are lower molars. Cracks often form around silver fillings which slightly expand after initial placement. Tiny cracks can start forming that are not even visible to the human eye. Once the crack becomes bigger, problems can arise. Symptoms include temperature sensitivity and/or pain on biting (especially during the release action). In many cases the crack can be treated with a full coverage restoration, like a crown. TRAUMATIC INJURIES TO THE TEETH often happen during sports or any sort of accident, especially to kids. These can range from a minor chip in the tooth to knocking out the entire thing.  The main thing to know is that time is of the essence. Get to your dentist or endodontist right away to determine the extent of damage and start any necessary treatment. If a tooth is knocked out of place and is not repositioned within the hour, the chance of saving it is drastically reduced. Read More...
